Allergies

I finally got around to mowing the grass today. Sometimes I really miss that baby boy! And not just to mow my lawn. I miss him on garbage night too. All kidding aside, I appreciated him mowing the lawn because I have allergies and grass is a big one. Gardening also activates my allergies and raking leaves is a nightmare. The leaves have always set off my nose to running but I used to love gardening and I never really minded mowing my own lawn.
Right now my face and nose are a bit itchy but the symptoms can be severe. It really came to a head about 18 months ago. I had what I call a severe allergy attack where my nose was running non-stop for hours and my sinuses swelled up. My head and face hurt and my nose turned raw even with the softest tissues. I had to cancel my plans that night and missed a friend’s birthday party. The next day it was all better. This then started happening on a weekly basis. I thought it might stop when the seasons changed but it didn’t. The only week I felt great was the week at the ocean.
I had to take action so I made an appointment with an allergist. Of course that took a couple of months for an available appointment. Apparently everyone else has allergies too. After seeing the PA, to see one of the doctors would take even longer, I set up another appointment for allergy testing. The result is I am allergic to basically everything. The cure is to get allergy shots. They give you a small dose of the things you are most allergic to every week so your body gets used to it and stops overreacting.
So I have been going for weekly shots now since January. After one year I can spread it out to every other week. If all goes well, I can stop the shots after 4 or 5 years and be fine. Some people have to be on them indefinitely. Hopefully my body responds positively. I have already seen improvement. I only have attacks every 2 or 3 weeks now and they are not as severe. And every time I mow the lawn, I hope it’s the last time for this season. But I know the leaves are coming next!
